The Table of Show Bread

The Table of Show Bread speaks of “Christ the Bread of Life”

The Table of Show Bread was made of Acacia Wood and was overlaid with gold.

The table measurements were

 2 cubits long x 1 cubit wide X 1.5 cubits high

The table had a golden moulding and a golden rim around the edge, which was 1 handbreadth wide (8cm)

The table had 4 golden rings, fastened to the four corners of the table, on its four legs.

These rings were inserted with 2 poles of acacia wood, overlaid with gold for carrying the table.

The table was very ornate.

The table was decked with plates, dishes, pitchers and bowls of pure gold.

The Bread of The Presence sat on the table

Each Sabbath, 12 specially prepared loaves sprinkled with frankincense were placed on the table in two rows of six.

The frankincense demonstrated Christ as the bread of life, and was of great value to God. When the bread was changed on the Sabbath the incense was placed on the incense alter producing a very pleasant fragrance.

This bread symbolised God’s provision for the priests.

The loaves were made of fine unleavened wheat flour baked in twelve cakes, using 0.2 Ephahs (4.5ltr) of flour per loaf. The loaves weighed were 53Kg in total.

The loaves were replaced every Sabbath with freshly made loaves. The loaves that were taken away were as fresh as the week before. The priests ate the bread in the Holy place indicating fellowship with God firstly, and then with each other.

This was just like the elders of Israel having fellowship, eating and drinking in the Lord God’s company, on the mountain.

Exodus 24:9-11

1 Samuel 21:6

David legally eats the bread of the presence because He was the anointed one and His followers could do the same, just like the disciples did when they picked and ate ears of wheat in Matthew 12:1

The loaves were prepared by the Levites

1 Chronicles 9:32

The replaced loaves were eaten only by the priests, in the Holy Place
