Sword Drill Exodus 27 1-6
Your attitude should be the
same as that of Christ Jesus, Who, being in very nature of God, did not
consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being
found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to
death even death on a cross!
The bronze
Alter is where the animal and food sacrifices were offered to God. There
were 2 types of sacrifices offered
Fine Flour
Wafers
Oil
We will look
at the sacrifices in lesson 16.
A person approached
the gate of the Tabernacle with their sacrifice to be offered.
The sacrifice
would be presented to the priest at the entrance gate and the priest would
inspect the animal before accepting it.
The animal
presented for sacrifice had to be a perfect animal, without any marks or
blemishes. The animal would be prepared for sacrifice. Some times the whole
animal was offered as a whole burnt offering, sometimes just certain parts
would be sacrificed and other parts would be eaten or burnt outside the
camp of
If the whole
animal was to be sacrificed, the animal was to be a young male bull. If
the whole animal to be sacrificed was acceptable to The Lord, the offerer
laid one hand on the head of the animal and the animal was then slaughtered.
This was to make atonement with God for the guilt of the sin. The person
then went free before God.
The young bull
was slaughtered by the offerer, Aaron’s sons took the blood and sprinkled
some of the blood against all the sides of the alter. The offerer then skinned
the young bull and cut the offering into pieces and washed the inner parts
and the legs. Aarons sons arrange
the wood on the alter and then laid the pieces on the burning wood. The
fire was always alight and never went out.

This all took place and was authorized by God as a way of temporarily
satisfying God for mans sinfulness during “The Time of Israel”. The animal
sacrifice was a temporary sacrifice only until the One and Only effective
sacrifice was come (Jesus Christ) and paid the debt of every ones sins,
past, present and future. The animal sacrifice was a temporary sacrifice
and could not take away sin and was to show (a prophecy) what would take
place at a future time when God The Father would judge all of our sins in
His Son on the cross.
